Swells and Extensions: Sharon Louden

January 20 - March 3, 2000

In Swells and Extensions, New York City artist Sharon Louden continued her explorations that came from a linear progression of drawings and previous installations where line and simple material were manipulated into form with a personality of its own.

Swells glowed from below and within the new piece, while Extensions crawled across the floor, intermingling and surrounding the swells as an energy that was fast and contrasting. The twist lied in the dual nature of the monofilament material—with the lights on, shadows were drawn, and with the lights off, beautiful phosphorescence created a feeling of landscape and “swelling” within the forms.

Exhibitions at the Regina Gouger Miller Gallery are supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; individual sponsors; the School of Art; and the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University.
