Films by Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba
Curated by Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson, Phyllis Wattis MATRIX Curator at the University of California’s Berkeley Art Museum
Sept. 5–Oct. 12, 2003
Memorial Project Vietnam featured two recent films by Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba: Towards the Complex – "For the Courageous, the Curious and the Cowards"(2001) and Happy New Year – Memorial Project Vietnam II (2003). The poetic works explored Vietnamese identity, political memory and cultural polarities. Both works featured underwater settings, vivid imagery, saturated color, choreographed movement and hypnotic soundtracks.
